Winter is upon us and although Christmas is now over, making sure that your car is in perfect working condition is crucial this time of year. The cold, winter weather can be very harsh on your vehicle. Depending on where you live and how bad the weather gets there, it’s rather important that you take proper care of your vehicle to ensure that you stay safe this winter.

The first thing that you want to do, if possible, is get your car serviced. This is the easiest way to find out whether anything’s wrong with your vehicle giving you plenty of time to fix whatever needs fixing. As mentioned earlier, you ideally want your vehicle to be in perfect condition during the winter months. If it’s not possible for you to get the vehicle serviced, carefully inspect it yourself, making sure that everything is working properly.

Before setting off in the winter, check your batteries. Make sure they are fully charged and in working order. There are hundreds of articles and videos online with tips about car battery maintenance so we recommend you check those out before doing anything to your batteries.

What’s also crucial in the winter months are your wipers. Weather can get a little extreme, with rain, snow and ice making it difficult for you to see the road. Having a clear view of the road in front of you is the single most important thing when driving. Anything that obstructs your vision is a serious hazard therefore having wipers that work is necessary. It is recommended that wipers should be replaced at least once a year and inspected every six months. If you notice that your wipers are not working as well as they used to, replace them.

It probably doesn’t come as a surprise that tyres are also very important, especially in the winter months. Roads often get slippery in the winter. If there’s an issue with ice or snow in your area you have to be even more careful. Check tyre pressure regularly and if your notice any irregularities, get them checked out and fixed as soon as possible.

Having functional breaks is probably the most important thing in the winter. Due to roads getting slippery, breaking in time is crucial. Having breaks that work can potentially save your life, so don’t take issues with breaks lightly.

We hope you found our guide useful. We also hope you have safe winter.

Safety should always come first!
